Job summary

Placon Corp. in Plymouth, MN is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist / Tool Room Technician to build, repair, and maintain production tooling using CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and related equipment.

The role supports manufacturing by troubleshooting tooling issues and reading blueprints to ensure accurate tool assembly. The position offers a hands-on leadership path on the shop floor with opportunities to train others, improve processes, and work with modern CNC tooling equipment while enjoying

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with CNC machining and machine shop equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to use hand tools, gauges, and inspection equipment.
• 1–2 years of experience in Tooling, assembly, or mechanical repair.
• Machine shop or manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with machine shop equipment and hand tools.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Build, repair, modify, and maintain production tooling using CNC mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and hand tools.
• Troubleshoot tooling, assemblies, and production issues to minimize downtime.
• Read blueprints/drawings to assemble and construct tools accurately.
• Operate support equipment such as: Proto machine, 3D printer, polishing equipment to name a few.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tooling and maintain logs/documentation.
• Store, retrieve, and track tooling according to production schedules.
• Support and train Tool Room Technicians and CNC Operators along with new hires.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
• Collaborate with the team to improve tooling systems and workflows.
