CNC Machinist Sales and Application Engineer

Job Summary

Kennametal is seeking talented machinists and programmers looking to transition their career from the shop floor into a professional sales role. If you currently work in machining or have prior hands-on machining and CNC programming experience, we are eager to speak with you! This position focuses on driving metal-cutting tool sales growth with new and existing customers by managing relationships, providing technical support, and increasing productivity. It combines technical knowledge with sales skills to meet targets, build a strong territory presence, and develop a sales pipeline. The role involves collaboration with internal sales and support teams to address customer needs related to CNC machining, milling, and lathe applications. The position is based from a home office within the territory, with 80% or more of the time spent visiting customer sites. Key Job Responsibilities
  • Meet or exceed revenue targets by providing effective metal cutting solutions aligned with market trends and customer needs.
  • Manage sales leads, prospects, and new customer accounts proactively.
  • Handle the entire sales process, including prospecting, qualification, meetings, demos, pricing, negotiations, and sourcing.
  • Develop and implement strategic territory plans to achieve revenue goals, focusing on new product sales.
  • Respond promptly to pre-sales technical and commercial inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate customer and project records in CRM systems.
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Application Engineers and Inside Sales to enhance customer experience.
  • Conduct product demonstrations tailored to customer requirements, online or onsite.
  • Organize and participate in workshops, webinars, and events within the territory.
  • Represent Kennametal at trade shows, conferences, and other industry events.
  • Analyze complex application needs to deliver cost-effective solutions and tooling recommendations.
  • Prepare and present progress, status, and forecast reports.
Requirements
  • Technical degree or equivalent experience in Business, Manufacturing, or Engineering preferred.
  • At least 3 years of relevant CNC machining industry experience.
  • Strong product knowledge, including applications and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of industry trends and ability to align solutions accordingly.
  • Excellent critical thinking, presentation, and administrative skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Customer-focused with problem-solving passion.
  • Detail-oriented in managing contracts and project specifications.
  • Creative, persuasive, and strategic thinker.
  • Team player capable of cross-department collaboration.
