Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico seeks a motivated GT1 machinist tradesperson to join our Advanced Metal Processing team. You will develop foundational skills in precision machining, fabricating complex components, and testing hardware for national security applications.

Work with CNC, MasterCam, Solidworks, and fixture design while collaborating with engineers and customers. The role emphasizes design for manufacturability, process development, documentation, and adherence to safety

Qualifications

• Experience generating multi-axis CNC tool paths for 2-5 axes.
• Proficiency with CAD/CAM tools for CNC such as Solidworks and MasterCam.
• Examples of design for manufacturability and design definition review.
• Ability to define machining processes including tooling/fixtures design.
• Experience interpreting and fabricating GD&T definitions.
• Ability to schedule work and maintain a job database.
• Excellent communication and teamwork to work with staff/management.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
• Metal Trades positions represented by the Metal Trades Council (MTC).

Responsibilities

• Fabricate metal components to specifications using CNC, manual, and hand tools.
• Program CNC tools to fabricate components using MasterCam.
• Estimate fabrication time for components.
• Discuss component design and manufacturability with customers.
• Document work in a database and track progress.
• Collaborate to define process strategies, tooling, and fixtures.
• Work safely and maintain security, following DOE requirements.
• Communicate with staff, technologists, and management.
