Laitram LLC's Machinist 3 position in New Orleans offers a pathway to advance your CNC experience. You will load stock, set up multiple CNC machines, monitor production, and ensure parts meet print specs.

The role emphasizes precision, quality, and teamwork. Candidates should have 3–5 years of CNC setup experience, proficiency with inspection tools, GD&T, and CAM file review; strong communication skills are valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3–5 years minimum experience setting up multiple CNC equipment types.
• Proficient with inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
• Knowledge of G and M codes and CAM file review.
• Strong shop math skills and GD&T knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Load stock into workholding devices and monitor machining processes.
• Perform visual and physical inspection per Quality Management System.
• Record accurate transactions and paperwork for operations.
• Operate equipment after setup on high volume orders.
• Keep work area clean and organized; perform setup adjustments.
• Develop repeatable set-ups across CNC milling and lathe machines.
• Adjust speeds/feeds, work holding, and tooling to meet print specs.
• Mentor and train other machinists as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Load stock into work holding devices and monitors the machining process.
• Performs visual and physical inspection of parts produced per Laitram Machine Shop Quality Management System.
• Performs accurate transactions (clock on, clock off, entering quantities, closing out operation when done, filling in appropriate paperwork).
• Operates equipment when setup operations are complete, up to and including high volume production orders.
• Cleans equipment used and keeps work area clean/organized.
• Performs accurate and repeatable set-ups across a variety of CNC Milling and Lathe machines.
• Make necessary adjustments to program speeds/feeds, work holding, and tooling to maintain nominal print dimensions and required surface finishes.
• Provides effective training and mentorship to develop the skills of other machinists.

Requirements:

• Has a high school diploma or equivalent.
• 3-5 years minimum experience setting up multiple types of CNC equipment.
• Proficient using inspection tooling (i.e., micrometers, calipers, gages) to accurately measure part features.
• Knowledge of G and M codes.
• Review CAM files to troubleshoot issues and provide effective recommendations to the programmer/lead.
• Proficient using common Shop Math. Metric conversions, SFM, geometry etc.
• Is a self-managed individual able to work well individually or in a team environment.
• Is flexible and responsive to changing demands.
• Possess strong verbal and written communications skills.
• Must be able to perform the essential job requirements identified in the Functional Job Description for this position, including the ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Experience with GD&T.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with manual and automated CMM’s.
• Experience with FDM 3D Printing.
• Experience using CAM software. Attained proficiency providing effective programs in one CNC discipline. (Horizontal Mill, Vertical Mill, Lathe, Multi-axis etc.)
