CNC Machinist II
Location: Oceanside, CA Pay Range: $26.00-$32.00 per hour DOE Shift: First Shift, 5:00 am - 1:30 pm
Position Summary
The CNC Machinist II is responsible for setting up, preparing, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) multi-axis milling and multi-turret lathe machines to manufacture precision metal components. This position requires the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications, select appropriate tooling, perform machine adjustments, inspect finished products, and maintain equipment and processes to ensure quality and production requirements are met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC multi-axis mills and/or lathes to produce precision metal components.
- Load and execute new or established jobs using CNC machine controls.
- Select appropriate cutting tools and perform basic non-CAD/CAM programming as required.
- Operate manual machine equipment when necessary.
- Enter machine commands to activate equipment, align indexing tables, and position spindles.
- Monitor machine operation, gauges, displays, and readouts to identify malfunctions or process issues.
- Maintain tooling and equipment to support consistent production and critical process controls.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and work collaboratively with other operators and appropriate personnel to resolve problems.
- Remove completed parts and perform dimensional measurements to verify conformance with specifications.
- Inspect machined components using appropriate measuring instruments and inspection methods.
- Make machine adjustments, including setting speeds and feed rates, to maintain product quality.
- Clean equipment and replace worn or damaged tooling as needed.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Report to work on time, follow supervisor instructions, and comply with established work rules, procedures, policies, and safety requirements.
- Work effectively with coworkers and respond appropriately to constructive feedback.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on operational requirements.
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3-5 years of CNC machine operator experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of trigonometry, geometry, algebra, and arithmetic.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, CNC machine operation, and raw materials.
- Ability to set up and operate CNC equipment.
- Ability to monitor gauges, dials, displays, and machine controls.
- Ability to use and read basic precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing quality standards, including AS9100.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality components.
- Ability to troubleshoot routine machining and equipment issues.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
