Job summary

Rochester Precision Optics is seeking a CNC Machinist I to operate and optimize CNC milling and turning processes in a production environment. You will interpret drawings, program review, and perform precision inspections to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface quality.

The role requires hands-on setup, calibration, and process adjustments, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Training occurs on 1st shift before transitioning to 2nd shift with a 5% differential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
• Strong understanding of machining principles including feeds, speeds, tool wear, cutting tool selection, and process control.
• Proficiency with precision inspection equipment including micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, thread gauges, optical comparators, and similar metrology tools.
• Working knowledge of G-code and M-code programming, including the ability to review and perform minor program edits when required.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to understand part requirements, tolerances, and processes.
• Operate CNC mills and lathes using established programs and setups.
• Monitor operations and adjust offsets, tooling, feeds, speeds, and process parameters for accuracy and quality.
• Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring tools.
• Verify conformance to dimensional, geometric, and cosmetic requirements and ensure standards.
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, quality, and process issues and communicate concerns to leads or management.
