Hi-Tech Mold & Engineering in Rochester Hills, MI seeks a full-time 5-axis CNC Machinist for the night shift (4:00 p.m.–2:30 a.m., M–F; Sat 5 hours). Eligible for an 8% night shift premium.

The role involves setting up, operating, and optimizing 5-axis CNC centers to produce high-quality injection molds. You will read CAD drawings, select tools, monitor performance, and collaborate with engineering and quality teams to meet production goals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience.
• Ability to read CAD blueprints and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 5-axis CNC machines to manufacture injection molds.
• Read and interpret CAD blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
• Select, install, and adjust cutting tools, fixtures, and machine parameters.
• Monitor machine operations and adjust programs for dimensional accuracy.
• Measure molds with precision tools and perform inspections.
• Troubleshoot tooling, machine performance, quality, and production issues.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain coolant, lubrication, and filtration systems.
• Maintain production records and setup sheets.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve processes.
• Assist in training less experienced machinists and operators.
• Follow all safety and environmental standards.

Shift: 4:00 p.m. - 2:30 a.m. M-F, Saturdays 5 hours (some flexibility in shift times)

Eligible for 8% shift premium for night shift

Summary of the Position:

The 5-Axis CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing 5-axis CNC machining centers to produce injection molds that meet quality, delivery, and productivity requirements. This position requires advanced knowledge of CNC machining, blueprint reading, tooling, and machining injection molds.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 5 axis machines to manufacture injection molds.
• Read and interpret CAD blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and specifications.
• Select, install, and adjust cutting tools, fixtures, and machine parameters.
• Monitor machine operations and make program or offset adjustments as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy.
• Measure and inspect molds using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers and calipers.
• Troubleshoot machining issues related to tooling, machine performance, quality, and production efficiency.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain proper coolant, lubrication, and filtration systems.
• Maintain production records, quality documentation, and job setup sheets.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve manufacturing processes and productivity.
• Assist in training less experienced machinists and operators as needed.
• Follows and supports all quality, safety, and environmental standards applicable to the job

Qualifications & Experience

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience.
• Understand all aspects of 2D and 3D machining.
• Experience with Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens, Haas, Mazak, or similar CNC controls.
• Experience with FCS, heat shrinking, and laser probing.
• Tebis programming experience is a plus.
• Knowledge and previous machining of injection molds is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret CAD blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and technical drawings.
• Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and production reporting.
• Must maintain regular and predictable attendance
• Must be able to be physically onsite to work
• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds, be able to view computer screens and paperwork at close distance, distinguishing letters and numbers,
