Job summary

U.S. Pipe is hiring a 1st Shift Machinist for our Bessemer, AL location. This heavy industrial manufacturing role involves setting up and operating machine tools, performing layout work from drawings, and ensuring precision tolerances.

You will interpret sketches, select and grind tools, and assemble and adjust machinery while maintaining safety and cleanliness. Experience with CNC centers preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred; CNC/Certified Machinist preferred
• Proven ability to read blueprints/drawings and interpret layouts
• Familiarity with micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools
• Experience setting up and operating CNC machine centers is a plus
• Proficiency with hand tools and machine shop safety practices

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate various machine tools and centers
• Interpret job cards and drawings to determine procedures
• Perform layout work including sketching and measurements
• Select and grind tools appropriate for material hardness and tolerances
• Assemble, align, and adjust machinery and equipment
• Maintain clean and safe work area and report issues promptly
