Job summary

Wall Colmonoy's Aerobraze Engineered Technologies division is seeking an experienced Machinist to set up and operate CNC lathes and ensure parts meet tight tolerances for aerospace components.

You will read aerospace blueprints, perform on-machine edits, and inspect parts using micrometers and calipers, while mentoring teammates and maintaining production targets in a 50+ person shop.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years CNC lathe experience and solid setup skills.
• Ability to read aerospace blueprints and GD&T.
• Strong inspection skills with manual measuring tools.
• Independently diagnose and resolve machining issues.
• Excellent communication and leadership to guide others.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes with minimal supervision.
• Perform tool changes, offsets, and on-machine edits.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and ensure part quality.
• Conduct 100% dimensional inspection using micrometers, calipers, bore mics.
• Read and interpret complex aerospace blueprints and drawings.

• Mentor team members and support production targets.
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment and safety.

Aerobraze Engineered Technologies, a division of Wall Colmonoy manufactures turbine engine components like turbine nozzles, turbine vanes, complete turbine engines (both manufacturing and repair), diffusers, honeycomb seals and segments, heat shields, and parts for various turbomachinery.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes with minimal supervision (Femco, Haas, Okuma, Doosan, manual, VTL)
• Perform tool changes, offsets, and minor edits directly at the machine
• Troubleshoot machining issues, make decisions independently, and maintain part quality
• Perform 100%-dimensional inspection using tools such as:
  • Micrometers
  • Height stands
  • Calipers
  • Bore mics
  • Dial indicators
• Read and interpret complex aerospace blueprints and part drawings
• Ensure parts are produced to tight tolerances and customer requirements
• Support and mentor other team members when needed
• Meet daily and weekly production targets without sacrificing quality
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment

Required Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent is required
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Minimum 5 years CNC lathe experience
• Proficient with setups, tooling, and on-machine edits without step-by-step instruction
• Strong inspection skills with manual measuring tools
• Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and resolve machining issues
• Strong communication and leadership skills; able to assist and guide others

Preferred (Not Required) Skills

• Background in aerospace is a plus.
• Machinist certification (e.g., NIMS or equivalent)
• CNC programming experience (G-code, conversational, or CAM-based)
• CNC milling machine experience (Doosan, Haas, Makino)
• Wire EDM knowledge or experience (Makino)
