Job summary

Silfex Inc. seeks a skilled CNC Machinist 3 to operate 3- to 5-axis CNC machines and to perform precise setups, inspections, and tool changes. You’ll align parts with work instructions and manufacturing plans, ensuring adherence to quality standards and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years of CNC machining on 3- or 5-axis machines.
• Strong attention to detail and safety mindset.
• Experience with GD&T, G&M code, and precision measurement.
• Good math skills and ability to read work instructions.
• Preferred: technical school certification.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing and 5S.

Responsibilities

• Operate 3- to 5-axis CNC tools to machine parts per instructions and plans.
• Set up and adjust tooling, including threads, pre-drills, blind holes, and alignments.
• Perform in-process and final inspections with precision tools.
• Document measurements and observations in logs and reports.
• Generate maintenance work orders for CNC equipment repair.
• Maintain quality procedures per Silfex QMS.
• Support lean/5S initiatives and continuous improvement.

Essential Functions

Join our team as a CNC Machinist 3! You’ll demonstrate advanced machining capabilities, including optimizing setups, performing in‑process inspections, and making program adjustments.

• Operate 3‑ to 5‑axis CNC machine tools to accurately machine parts per work instructions and manufacturing plans.
• Startup and shutdown machines; run new tool setups such as thread holes, pre‑drills, blind holes, and guide alignments.
• Verify conformance of in‑process and final products through dimensional and visual inspections using precision measuring tools and equipment (micrometers, indicators, calipers, profilometers, Contracers, and CMMs).
• Use proper material handling techniques to ensure product quality and equipment condition.
• Maintain product specifications by performing accurate measurements, detecting malfunctions, and replacing worn tools, while consistently adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
• Follow work instructions, setup sheets, and other production‑related information.
• Properly document measurements and visual observations by completing production and quality logs.
• Use tool setter and tool dresser to set tooling geometry.
• Generate maintenance work orders for repair of CNC machines and equipment.
• Perform assigned preventative maintenance and maintain coolant lines and nozzle positioning.
• Set up machines for production to ensure they’re operating correctly.
• Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the Silfex Quality Management System and properly apply quality procedures and operating procedures as appropriate.
• Assist in applying lean manufacturing concepts and 5S.
• Demonstrate ownership of continuous improvement ideas and activities.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 3+ years of CNC machining experience on 3‑ or 5‑axis CNC machines.
• Machine control experience.
• Attention to detail and a quality‑and‑safety mindset.
• Basic proficiency in operating computers, including navigating software and web‑based platforms.
• Strong shop math skills, including geometry, fractions, and calculator usage to verify measurements and calculations.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Preferred: Certificate from Technical School or Trade School.
• Knowledge of GD&T, G&M code, 5S, lean manufacturing, and machining of Si, glass, or other brittle materials.
