Job summary

Chart Industries in Tulsa, OK, is seeking a skilled machinist to set up and operate band saws, horizontal and vertical mills, lathes, and related equipment. You will read prints, adjust tooling, perform precision work to tight tolerances on aluminum and steel parts, and prepare parts for assembly.

You must have a high school diploma or GED and 3–5 years of experience. This safety-sensitive role involves heavy machinery, with a comprehensive benefits package for full-time staff.

What Will You Do?
  • Set up and operate all machining and related equipment in the machine shop area.
  • Set up and operate all horizontal and vertical mills in the machine shop area.
  • Faces, turns, mills, chamfers, drills, threads, slots, and bores aluminum and steel products and assemblies using the above machines.
  • Change milling tools and other tools as required.
  • Set up and operate engine lathe.
  • Set up and operate a radial drill press.
  • Perform drilling, tapping, reaming, boring, counter‑boring, chamfering, and hole sawing using the above machines.
  • Set up and operate all single‑spindle drill presses.
  • Drills, reams, counterbores, chamfers, and taps various parts using the above machines.
  • Set up and operate a 5‑ton hydraulic press to straighten and size parts.
  • Set up and operate all saws (pipe, angles, flat plate, miter and scarfs, header bodies) using aluminum or steel.
  • Set up and operate power and hand rollers to form parts per print.
  • Set up and operate nibbler to rough‑cut material and cut 1/4" parting sheets.
  • Set up and operate pedestal grinder for sharpening tools and bits.
  • Set up and operate band saw/welder station to assemble saw blades.
  • Set up and operate a plasma cutter using a PLC.
  • Set up and operate a 500‑ton brake press to form, straighten, and size parts.
  • Clean parts during cleaning operations.
  • Surface grinding, form grinding, and hold tight tolerances.

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…
  • Lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, walking and occasional crawling.
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, and handling of material.
  • Occasional climbing and working at elevated positions.
  • Repetitive hand movements during welding operations.
  • This position is classified as safety sensitive. Due to the use of heavy machinery, power tools, and exposure to potentially hazardous conditions, the role requires heightened awareness and adherence to all safety protocols. Employees must perform duties safely for themselves and others.
Your Experience Should Be…
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Industry knowledge preferred.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience required.
  • Read prints and interpret machining requirements.
  • Set up and operate machines and equipment listed above.
  • Modify and use tooling and fixturing.
  • Use all measuring devices associated with machining to close tolerances (0.000 – 0.060).
  • Must use math involving decimals and fractions.
  • Must understand good machining practices (feeds, speeds, cutters, and materials).
  • Good hand‑eye coordination.
  • Ability to check and verify that all parts meet requirements and specifications.
