Sets up and operates CNC machining equipment to produce precision parts in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality requirements.
- Sets up and operates CNC mills and/or lathes to produce precision machined components.
- Reads and interprets engineering drawings, GD&T, manufacturing routings, work instructions, and applicable specifications.
- Selects and installs cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding; establishes tool and work offsets as required.
- Performs first-piece and in-process inspection using calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment.
- Adjusts offsets, speeds, feeds, and tooling as necessary to maintain dimensional and finish requirements.
- Monitors tool wear, machine performance, and part quality; replaces tooling and reports equipment issues as required.
- Performs deburr, cleaning, and secondary operations as required by the manufacturing process.
- Records production quantities, labor, inspection results, and traceability information accurately and completely.
- Identifies nonconforming product, segregates affected material, and promptly communicates issues to supervision and Quality.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area and follows all safety requirements, machine guarding, and PPE rules.
- Participates in setup reduction, process improvement, scrap reduction, and other continuous improvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining practices, machine setup, cutting tools, workholding, offsets, speeds, and feeds.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and manufacturing documentation.
- Ability to perform machine setups and make routine adjustments necessary to maintain part conformity.
- Knowledge of common aerospace materials and their machining characteristics, including aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium.
- Proficiency using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, bore gages, and indicators.
- Ability to perform shop mathematics, including decimals, fractions, basic geometry, and trigonometry as required.
- Familiarity with AS9100, configuration control, traceability, first article requirements, and nonconforming material controls.
- Ability to consistently produce parts to close dimensional and surface-finish requirements.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with supervisors, programmers, inspectors, and other production personnel.
- Experience with ERP/MRP production tracking and CNC/CAM environments preferred.
Education & experience
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in machining is preferred.
- Three to five years related CNC machining experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Technical aptitude to understand machine tools, manufacturing processes, inspection requirements, and blueprints.
