Job summary

Johnson Service Group in Nashville seeks an experienced machinist to load, locate, and pin work, adjust pins and cutters for multi-axis movement, and operate tape-controlled machines.

You will read part drawings, prepare surfaces, inspect parts, and assist trainees while ensuring quality and tool handling. This full-time role requires a High School Diploma or a Machinist 1 diploma from Tennessee College of Applied Technology, or 5 years machining experience. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Assist in training and ensure accuracy of parts and finishes.

Responsibilities

• Set up work by loading, locating and pinning into positions, adjusting pins and cutters for multi-axis movement.
• Scan printed program for proper speed, position, depth, cutters, pin bits.
• Edit tapes for conformity to specification and proper running of parts.
• Refer to drawings and shop orders to determine sequences and tools.
• Prepare surfaces, seal as required, perform touch-up and cleaning.
• Zero tape-controlled positions and verify sequence during dry runs.
• Install and maintain vacuum rubber as required and operate machine controls.
• Assist with tape proofing and make manual moves as needed for tape correction.
• Plan changes and request equipment/tools as needed; move parts using lift truck/crane.
• Instruct trainee operators and ensure tool transport and housekeeping.

Work Performed

Set up work by loading, locating and pinning into positions, by adjusting pins and cutters forcontrolled multi axes movement. Scan printed program for proper speed, position, depth,cutters, pin bits. Edits tapes for conforming to specification and proper running of parts. Refers to part drawing and shop orders to ascertain sequences, dimensions, applicableproject and holding fixtures and cutting tools. Prepares surfaces for sealing as required, fayseals, performs touch-up and cleans work as required. Zero the tape controlled positions. Check sequence of positions during a dry run. Setcontrols and make adjustments to assure consistent results. Install and maintain vacuumrubber as required. Drill, tap and pull part locating pin as required from holding fixture. Installs tapes and operate the machine, using the provided controls. Referring constantly toprinted program for proper positioning. Assist in tape proofing, making such manual movesas may be required until tape correction. Plan changes and request equipment and toolsprior to need. Remove parts and equipment from bed as required. Watchesfor functional variations in machine or machine control unit and take corrective action when required.Checks and assists others in checking completed parts dimensionally and for proper finish.Instructs trainee operators. Metal tags parts as required. Carries all cutting tools to and fromcutter grinding crib and/or cutter kitting cribs as required. Uses such typical equipment as lift truck, crane and scooter to load, move, unload andposition tools, parts or materials. Perform duties incidental to the accomplishment of the assigned task. Each employee will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and housekeeping in hiswork area as directed as well as assuring the accuracy of their work.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma Machinist 1 diploma from Tennessee College of Applied Technology or 5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment in lieu of education.
