Job summary

Pursuit Aerospace, located in Morton, IL, is seeking a CNC machinist to operate Okuma mill and turning machines on a 100% on‑site basis. The role requires following work orders, blueprints, and sketches, with a focus on quality and efficiency. Training on first shift, then potential shift changes with differential.

Responsibilities include setting up machines, editing programs, and maintaining a safe, orderly work area while supporting team goals and company policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full‑time basis without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations.
  • 0–2 years CNC machinist experience (preferred).
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English.

  • Performs set‑ups and operates Okuma CNC mill & turn machines and related equipment where programs, fixtures, and methods have been developed.
  • Makes edits and adjustments to produce parts to work orders/blueprints and sketches.
  • Operates more than one machine in a cellular environment when required.
  • Understands feeds, speeds, and cutting tool applications.
  • Inspects work for all dimensional features and ensures quality and quantity per company standards.

About the Opportunity

Operates Okuma CNC Milling & Turning machines under the direction of the area supervisor or Lead Person.

Location

Morton, IL - This position is 100% on site, train on first shift then move to an off shift with 10% shift differential.

Responsibilities
  • Performs set‑ups and operates Okuma CNC mill & turn machines and related equipment where programs, fixtures, and methods have been developed.
  • Makes all edits and adjustments as required to produce parts to work orders/blueprints and sketches.
  • The ability to operate more than one machine in a cellular environment is required.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of feeds and speeds and a working knowledge of cutting tools and their application.
  • Inspects work for all dimensional features as required.
  • Produces quality and quantity of work in accordance with Company requirements.
  • Responsible for accurately completing paperwork relating to counts, scrap, time, etc. according to Company policy.
  • Performs duties always exercising good machining practices.
  • Maintains area, equipment, and tooling in a neat, orderly condition including operator maintenance sheets.
  • Maintains coolant tanks and fills as necessary.
  • Assists new and less experienced operators as requested.
  • Observes all Company policies, rules, and regulations including good housekeeping, safety, and security.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full‑time basis without sponsorship now or in the future. The Company cannot offer employment to visa holders who require employer sponsorship in the future or cannot work now on a full‑time basis.
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 0–2 years CNC machinist experience
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English.
  • Ability to understand and interpret blueprints and sketches.
  • Basic mechanical ability.
  • Experience with Okuma CNC machines and Fanuc controls
  • Experience operating in a cellular manufacturing environment
  • Prior experience using precision measuring instruments
  • Exposure to aerospace or tight‑tolerance manufacturing environments
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to have prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand, and walk.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Personal protective equipment (e.g., safety glasses and safety shoes) is required on the shop floor.
  • Occasional weekend and evening work may be required to accommodate priorities, deadlines, and schedules.
