Job summary

Aerotek in Moorpark, CA is seeking CNC machinists to join an established team. You will set up and operate 3–5 axis CNC mills and lathes, machining across materials like stainless steel, titanium, mild steel and aluminum to meet tight tolerances.

Roles involve tool setup, reading engineering docs, and working across multiple stations including large 5‑axis gantry machines. Contract to hire with daytime hours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years’ experience setting up 3–5 axis CNC machines (mills and lathes).
• Proficient in boring, drilling, milling, tapping and threading operations.
• Experience with mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium machining.
• Ability to read and follow engineering drawings and shop documents.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 3–5 axis CNC machines (mills and lathes) to produce precision parts.
• Work with mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium; ensure proper handling and machining techniques.
• Perform a variety of machining operations including boring, drilling, milling, tapping and threading.
• Set up and verify cutting tools per machine requirements and job specs.
• Ensure documents are correct before starting work on a work order.
• Operate across multiple stations including 5-axis gantry and MAG machines and monitor tolerances.
• Inspect parts for quality and adherence to dimensions; adjust as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow shop procedures.

Job description

This role offers the opportunity to join an established team of CNC machinists and work across multiple stations, with a primary focus on setting up and operating 3–5 axis CNC machines. You will work with a variety of materials, including stainless steel, titanium, mild steel, and aluminum, to produce precision components that meet strict engineering specifications and tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 3–5 axis CNC machines, including mills and lathes, to produce precision parts.
• Work with materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium, ensuring proper handling and machining techniques.
• Perform a variety of machining operations, including boring, drilling, milling, tapping, and threading on raw material to create finished parts.
• Set up and/or verify cutting tools according to specific machine requirements and job specifications.
• Verify that all required engineering and shop documents have been obtained and are correct before starting work on a work order.
• Operate and be trained on multiple machining stations, such as drill press stations, conventional machines, large 5‑axis gantry machines, MAG3 (6‑axis) machines, and MAG1 (5‑axis) CNC machines.
• Monitor machining processes to ensure parts meet required tolerances and dimensions in line with engineering drawings and specifications.
• Inspect completed parts for quality, accuracy, and adherence to dimensional requirements, making adjustments as needed.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow established shop practices and procedures.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience setting up 3–5 axis CNC machines, including mills and lathes.
• Proficiency in CNC machining operations such as boring, drilling, milling, tapping, and threading.
• Hands‑on experience working with mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum materials.
• Ability to set up and verify cutting tools in accordance with machine and job requirements.
• Capability to read and follow engineering specifications, shop documents, and work orders accurately.
• Experience operating or willingness to learn multiple CNC and conventional stations, including 5‑axis gantry machines and multi‑axis MAG machines.
• Strong attention to detail to consistently achieve tight tolerances and precise dimensions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with titanium machining is highly beneficial and both CNC milling and turning (lathe) operations.
• Comfort working across different machine types, including drill presses and conventional machines.
• Ability to adapt to different stations and learn new equipment and processes as needed.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Moorpark, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
