Job summary

Aerotek is hiring for a contract-to-hire CNC Setup Technician in Cartersville, GA. You will set up and operate CNC lathes and mills, machine parts to blueprints, and perform tool changes to support high-volume production.

The role requires 5+ years of CNC machining experience, strong GD&T knowledge, and the ability to read routings. Expect a physically demanding, onsite role with potential overtime in a busy plant.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience using CNC machines, performing setups and changeovers.
• Proficient in GD&T and reading blueprints.
• Able to perform tool changes and basic CNC program adjustments.
• Experience with G-code and basic CNC adjustments.
• Strong ability to inspect parts with precision tools.

Job description

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC lathes and mills to produce precision components in a high-volume industrial environment. You will machine parts according to blueprints, routings, and standard work instructions, perform in-process inspections, and make basic CNC program adjustments and tool changes to maintain quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes and CNC mills to produce precision components.
• Machine parts in accordance with blueprints, routings, and standard work procedures.
• Perform complete machine setups, including tooling setup and changeovers, to support production requirements.
• Inspect machined parts using gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and quality.
• Make basic CNC program adjustments to ensure parts meet specifications and improve process efficiency.
• Perform tool changes and maintain proper tooling configuration during production runs.
• Apply knowledge of GD&T and G-code when reviewing programs and troubleshooting machining issues (for more experienced specialists).
• Troubleshoot machining problems and equipment issues to minimize downtime and scrap (for more experienced specialists).
• Follow all standard work, safety procedures, and quality guidelines in a busy machine shop environment.
• Work on your feet throughout the shift, handling physical tasks such as loading and unloading parts and moving materials as needed.
• 2-5 years of experience using CNC machines, performing setups and changeovers for Set Up Tech-level responsibilities.
• Ability to perform own machine setups and set up tooling independently.
• 5+ years of CNC machining experience, including setups, changeovers, troubleshooting, and programming for Operations Specialist-level responsibilities.
• Hands-on experience with CNC lathes and CNC mills in an industrial or machine shop environment.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and routings.
• Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to inspect parts.
• Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) for evaluating and maintaining part quality.
• Experience with G-code and basic CNC program adjustments.
• Strong troubleshooting skills to address machining and process issues.
• Comfort working in a physical, on-your-feet-all-day role in a large industrial plant.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Haas CNC machine experience is a nice-to-have and will be considered an asset.
• Experience in a typical machine shop environment with high-volume production is beneficial.
• Ability to handle overtime and extended workweeks when required.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a busy production setting.

This role is based in a large industrial plant with a typical machine shop environment that is not climate controlled and can be dusty. The work is physically demanding, and you will be on your feet all day performing hands-on tasks around CNC machines. Shifts include a primary schedule of 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, with work on most Fridays and frequent overtime. You will work around heavy machinery, tools, and equipment in a busy production setting, following appropriate safety practices and wearing suitable industrial attire.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cartersville, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
