As a CNC Machinist, you will oversee the entire manufacturing process for parts produced on lathes and mills, spanning from the initial machine setup through to the final quality assessment. This position demands technical expertise in preparing tooling, managing raw material input, and performing live modifications to G-code to ensure precise tolerances are met. To excel in this fast-moving shop, you must be capable of lifting substantial components and possess a keen eye for detail when resolving mechanical challenges.
Daily Tasks
- Operate CNC lathes and mills with high efficiency to help the team consistently reach production goals and meet critical delivery deadlines.
- Independently configure machines and tooling by following technical specifications to facilitate a smooth and productive workflow.
- Perform comprehensive quality checks, including initial, mid-run, and final inspections using precision tools like calipers, micrometers, and CMM equipment to ensure part integrity.
- Manage production data, tracking, and internal updates by utilizing JobBoss and other digital software systems.
- Carry out standard operator-level maintenance tasks to support equipment longevity and keep machinery running at its best.
- Quickly identify and fix equipment or tooling problems to reduce downtime and help maintain high-precision output.
- Complete de-burring and necessary rework on components to ensure they meet the required finishing standards.
- Suggest and implement process improvements to help boost overall operational efficiency and machining performance.
- Keep your workspace tidy and orderly, ensuring it remains fully compliant with 5S organizational standards.
- Follow all company safety protocols and PAC standards to help maintain a secure, accident-free work environment for everyone.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Between 3 and 5 years of professional experience in CNC setup and operation for both mills and lathes.
- Deep knowledge of machining center principles, specifically regarding X, Y, and Z-axis orientation and centerline or edge pickup methods.
- High level of proficiency in using precision measurement tools, such as height gauges, optical comparators, thread gauges, and CMM technology.
- Strong ability to interpret complex blueprints, including a thorough grasp of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
- Excellent communication skills to help foster a culture of continuous improvement and ensure all customer requirements are met.
- Competency in industrial math and the ability to use MS Office and Windows-based software for tracking production.
- Must satisfy all eligibility criteria to work with ITAR-controlled materials and data.
- Physical capability to lift, pull, and push tooling or raw materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must meet AS 9100 vision standards to ensure the ability to conduct high-precision inspections and identify minor surface flaws.
