Responsible for carrying out work assignments as directed and instructed. Must be able to operate specific equipment and perform basic/simple set-up (lathe/mill) to perform a variety of machining operations. Work to close tolerances and fine finishes.
PREREQUISITES:
Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must be able to read and understand prints and/or drawings, have a basic knowledge of shop math and be able to use precision measuring instruments.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Must be able to perform basic/simple set-up and operate specific CNC lathes or mills under supervision and be able to follow written and verbal instructions while meeting productivity goals.
- Use precision instruments and measuring devices including, but not limited to micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators and depth gauges.
- Check and inspect work in progress so that all parts conform to drawing specifications. Perform visual and mechanical checks on parts produced as required, take appropriate action if defects are found.
- Be able to work other shifts as instructed, either on a permanent or temporary basis.
- General understanding of jigs and fixtures.
- Use set‑up sheets and follow Process Control Procedures/Work Instructions.
- Make adjustments and/or change cutting tools when size and finish begins to vary from drawing tolerances.
- Operate miscellaneous hand tools such as small drill presses, air grinders, drill motors, etc.
- Perform secondary operations while running primary equipment as required.
- Correctly fill out SPC charts if required at job.
- Correctly fill out paperwork.
- Follow all safety procedures and is safety minded.
- Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping.
