Job summary

Colonial Group in Beloit, WI is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to set up and operate one or more CNC machines or a small work cell. You will establish reference points, offsets, and presets, and run trials as required to verify tapes and processes.

Responsibilities include operating machines, deburring, inspecting parts for conformance to tolerances, maintaining tooling and documentation, and handling medium to heavy materials with hoist or crane as needed.

Qualifications

• Operates and sets up CNC machine tools according to standard work instructions.
• Ability to read blueprints and process documents for proper tolerances.
• Uses fixtures, tools and inserts as part of the machining process.

Responsibilities

• Set up machines and establish reference points and offsets.
• Presets tools and conducts trial runs or proves tapes as required.
• Operate one or more machines at a time and perform deburring and quality checks.
• Maintain machine and tooling, keep files and daily maintenance records.
• Handle medium to heavy materials with hoist or crane when needed.

Job description

Primary Function: To set up and operate an individual CNC machine tool or several machine tools organized in a work group or cell.

Tools & Equipment:

Equipment includes a variety of CNC machine tools including but not limited to mills, horizontal or vertical lathe, machining center, grinder. Equipment includes items such as fixtures, tools, inserts, chucks, heads, cutters, etc., that are standard equipment for the individual machine tool. Appropriate measuring instruments such as gages, micrometers, indicators, etc.; blueprints, process documents, hand tools.

Materials: Ferrous and non-ferrous metals

Source of Supervision: Assigned supervisor (typically team leader or process engineer)

Direction Exercised: None

Working Procedure:

Receives assignment, drawings, process documents, program tapes, manuscripts and/or verbal instructions. Sets up machines using tools and equipment needed according to standard work instructions and machine requirements. Establishes reference points and sets offsets. May be required to preset tools. Make trial runs or prove out tapes as required. Perform work to tolerances indicated.

May be required to operate two machines simultaneously or perform other miscellaneous duties such as deburring, checking work, or presetting tools during machine cycle.

Maintains standard work files, program files, fixtures, tooling, etc. Keeps machine clean and performs daily routine maintenance checks.

Handles medium weight materials by hand and heavier materials by hoist or crane.
