Job summary

Fairbanks Morse, LLC is seeking a CNC operator to set up and run one or more machine tools in a work cell, following drawings and process documents. You will establish reference points, set offsets, and perform tool presetting and trial runs to verify tolerances.

You may operate two machines, perform deburring, inspection, and tool changes, maintain standard files, and handle medium to heavy materials with hoist or crane, all while keeping the work area clean.

Responsibilities

• Receives assignment, drawings, process documents, program tapes, manuscripts and/or verbal instructions.
• Sets up machines using tools and equipment needed according to standard work instructions and machine requirements.
• Establishes reference points and sets offsets.
• May be required to preset tools.
• Make trial runs or prove out tapes as required.
• Perform work to tolerances indicated.
• May operate two machines simultaneously or perform deburring, checking work, or presetting tools during machine cycle.
• Maintains standard work files, program files, fixtures, tooling, etc.
• Keeps machine clean and performs daily routine maintenance checks.
• Handles medium weight materials by hand and heavier materials by hoist or crane.

Primary Function:

To set up and operate an individual CNC machine tool or several machine tools organized in a work group or cell.

Tools & Equipment:

Equipment includes a variety of CNC machine tools including but not limited to mills, horizontal or vertical lathe, machining center, grinder. Equipment includes items such as fixtures, tools, inserts, chucks, heads, cutters, etc., that are standard equipment for the individual machine tool. Appropriate measuring instruments such as gages, micrometers, indicators, etc.; blueprints, process documents, hand tools.

Source of Supervision:

Assigned supervisor (typically team leader or process engineer)

Working Procedure:
