Job summary

EMAG Group in North America seeks a field service engineer to commission, service, and optimize EMAG CNC machines and automation at customer sites, specializing in Siemens controls.

You will troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, drives, and related hardware, configure SINUMERIK/SIMATIC platforms, perform startups and buy-off, deliver training, and travel 70-90% domestically and internationally as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in industrial controls, machine tool service, automation, or electrical commissioning.
  • Journeyman Electrician or equivalent may substitute for degree.
  • Experience with Siemens/industrial control platforms is preferred.

  • Commission, validate, and hand over EMAG CNC machines at customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, motors, and associated hardware.
  • Configure Siemens platforms: SINUMERIK, SIMATIC PLCs, TIA Portal, STEP 7, WinCC.
  • Execute startups with verification, I/O mapping, safety checks, and testing.
  • Provide remote support and training; produce service reports with findings.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 70–90% as required.

About The Role

Be the front-line expert commissioning, optimizing, and servicing EMAG machine tools and automation systems across North America—and internationally when required. You'll specialize in Siemens controls and keep our customers productive from startup through buy-off and beyond.

  • Commission, validate, and hand over EMAG CNC machines and automation at customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, motors, and associated electrical/control hardware.
  • Configure and tune Siemens platforms: SINUMERIK, SIMATIC PLCs, TIA Portal, STEP 7, WinCC, and related drive systems.
  • Execute startups including verification, I/O mapping and checks, safety circuit validation, and operational testing.
  • Use schematics, software diagnostics, and test instruments to resolve electrical, controls, communications, and automation issues.
  • Adjust PLC logic, HMI pages, machine parameters, and control configurations.
  • Conduct acceptance testing and support customer buy-off.
  • Deliver training to maintenance, operators, programmers, and engineering teams on operation, controls, troubleshooting, and PM.
  • Provide remote technical support to customers and internal service colleagues.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Commissioning, Mechanical Service, and Customer Service to close complex issues.
  • Produce detailed service reports: work performed, findings, corrective actions, and recommendations.
  • Support upgrades, retrofits, control modernizations, and software enhancements; improve procedures and troubleshooting guides.
  • Comply with customer and EMAG safety policies while representing the company professionally.

Qualifications
  • Preferred education: Associate or Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Industrial Controls, or related.
  • Journeyman Electrician or equivalent industrial electrical experience may substitute for degree.
  • Experience: 5+ years in industrial controls, machine tool service, automation, or electrical commissioning.
Technical mastery
  • Deep knowledge of Siemens automation ecosystems.
  • Comfortable reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and technical documentation.
  • Track record troubleshooting CNC machines, robotics, or automated manufacturing systems.
  • Exposure to Fanuc, Siemens, or similar industrial control platforms.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001/14001 principles.

  • Job will require travel to and visit a customer's office, production facility or job site. Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
