Job description

Suffield, CT|On-site|Full-time|$30–$45/hour based on experience

Angled Spade Technologies is hiring an experienced CNC machine operator to produce precision components on Swiss-type lathes, CNC turning centers, and mills.

About Angled Spade Technologies

Angled Spade Technologies is a small precision manufacturing team in Suffield, Connecticut, designing, manufacturing, and testing products in the firearms and suppressor industry. Our team members have opportunities to contribute across the product lifecycle. We value initiative, craftsmanship, accountability, and practical problem-solving.

About the Role

You will run production jobs, assist with machine setups, maintain tight tolerances, and inspect finished work. This is an operator-level position, not a lead programming role. We are seeking someone who can independently monitor quality, make appropriate adjustments, and identify machining issues. As we grow, there may be opportunities to take on setups, programming, and process development.

What You’ll Do
  • Operate Swiss-type lathes, CNC turning centers, and mills to produce precision parts.
  • Load material; change tools and inserts; monitor production consistency throughout the shift.
  • Maintain tolerances on turned and milled features, including threads and bores.
  • Make tool offsets and minor program edits at the control within your training and authorization.
  • Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, height stands, bore gages, thread gages, and pin gages.
  • Deburr, clean, and stage completed parts for inspection or assembly.
  • Maintain first-article and in-process inspection records.
  • Perform routine operator-level maintenance, including coolant checks, chip management, lubrication checks, and filter maintenance.
  • Identify and communicate tool wear, chatter, finish issues, and dimensional drift promptly.
  • Follow machine guarding, PPE, and applicable safe-work procedures; use lockout/tagout when required and authorized.
  • Recommend improvements to tooling, fixturing, and processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • At least three years of CNC machining experience, including hands-on Swiss-type lathe production experience.
  • Working knowledge of both CNC turning and milling operations.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and thread callouts.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools and interpreting inspection results.
  • Understanding of tool offsets, wear compensation, feeds and speeds, and insert changes.
  • Ability to read G-code to help identify potential program issues.
  • Production machining experience with stainless steel, titanium, or aluminum.
  • Reliable attendance, sound judgment, and willingness to stop production when quality or safety is at risk.
  • Ability to satisfy applicable U.S. export-control requirements and any legal eligibility requirements for assigned work involving regulated firearms or components.
  • Ability to complete a job‑related pre‑employment background check, where permitted by applicable law.
Preferred Qualifications

These qualifications are helpful but not required:

  • SolidWorks model and drawing navigation.
  • Esprit CAM or other CAM software experience.
  • Swiss setup experience, including guide bushing changes, tooling setup, and bar feeder adjustments.
  • Firearms, suppressor, or defense manufacturing experience.
  • Fixture and workholding design, including soft jaws and stops.
  • Experience in ISO 9001 or AS9100 environments and documented first‑article inspections.
  • Assembly, testing, or quality‑control experience.
  • Valid Connecticut pistol permit.
Pay, Schedule & Benefits
  • $30–$45 per hour, based on relevant experience, qualifications, and technical capabilities.
  • Full-time, hourly, nonexempt position; overtime paid in accordance with applicable law.
  • Approximately 40 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility based on production needs.
  • Paid time off and paid sick leave, subject to company policies and applicable law.
  • 10 paid company holidays plus one floating holiday, subject to company policy.
  • Opportunities for professional development in setups, programming, and process improvement.
  • Collaborative, hands‑on shop environment that values independence and accountability.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, and work around machinery.
  • Lifting and moving material weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms, fine motor skills, and visual inspection of drawings, gages, and machined features.
  • Close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus — reading drawings, gage faces, and part features.
  • Work in an industrial environment with noise, coolants, lubricants, and metal chips; required PPE must be worn.
  • Ability to maintain attention to safety and quality while managing multiple machines or tasks.

The essential functions of this position may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
