Award Staffing seeks a highly skilled CNC Machine Operator in Plymouth, MN, to run large Haas CNC mills and machine heavy steel components per drawings and specs. You will oversee setup, alignment, tool changes, and inspections, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Ideal candidates have 2–5+ years in heavy manufacturing, strong G-code knowledge, GD&T familiarity, and the ability to read calipers, use precision meters, and operate heavy lifting equipment.
High school diploma or GED required.
2–5+ years of CNC machining experience in a heavy manufacturing or industrial environment.
Experience operating large Haas CNC milling machines preferred.
Strong understanding of G-code fundamentals and machine operation.
Ability to read complex blueprints and engineering drawings.
Knowledge of GD&T preferred.
Experience machining carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and large fabricated components.
Proficiency using precision measuring equipment.
Experience with overhead cranes and rigging for heavy materials.
Basic computer skills for production tracking and machine controls.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
Knowledge of blueprints and reading work orders
Skilled at troubleshooting and correcting minor machine problems
Ability to read calipers
Able to lift and carry 50lbs
Able to stand for an entire shift
Set up and operate large Haas CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines.
Machine large steel components, weldments, castings, and fabricated assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications.
Load, position, and secure heavy workpieces using overhead cranes, forklifts, slings, and appropriate rigging techniques.
Verify machine setup including fixtures, tooling, work offsets, and part alignment.
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, work instructions, and machining specifications.
Monitor machining operations to ensure dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and production efficiency.
Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments including:
Micrometers
Calipers
Bore gauges
Coordinate measuring equipment (when applicable)
Make minor program edits and offset adjustments to maintain dimensional requirements.
Change tooling, replace inserts, and monitor tool wear to maximize machine performance.
Perform routine preventative maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, coolant monitoring, and chip removal.
Document production data, inspection results, and machine performance.
Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
Follow all OSHA, company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe lifting practices.
Collaborate with programmers, quality inspectors, maintenance personnel, and supervisors to resolve machining issues.
