Job Requirements:

1. Set up, operate, or tend lathe and turning machines to turn, bore, thread, form, or face metal or plastic materials, such as wire, rod, or bar stock.
2. Adjust machine controls and change tool settings to keep dimensions within specified tolerances.
3. Compute unspecified dimensions and machine settings, using knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.
4. Operate machines through cycles, stopping to adjust tool positions and controls to ensure specified timing, clearances, and tolerances.
5. Inspect sample workpieces with gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators to verify conformance with specifications.
6. Manually or mechanically lift and position metal stock or workpieces in machines, securing them with fasteners and hand tools.
7. Move toolholders manually or via automatic mechanisms to feed tools along workpieces.
8. Set cutting speeds, depths, feed rates, and position tools relative to workpieces.
9. Secure and align cutting tools in toolholders, verifying positions with measuring instruments.
10. Start machines and monitor operations to meet specifications.
11. Refill, change, and monitor fluids such as oil and coolant in machines.

Other Experience and Qualifications:

• Experience with CNC lathe or mill is helpful.
• Mechanically inclined.
• Basic shop math skills.
• Ability to use measuring equipment like gauges, mics, calipers, etc.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Ability to input machining data into a computer.
• Attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to stand for at least 8 hours.
• Ability to operate 2-3 machines in a cell format.
