Job summary

Steel Tool & Engineering is seeking a CNC Operator to operate and monitor CNC machines for aerospace components. You will read blueprints, verify tooling, and ensure parts meet very tight tolerances per GD&T specs.

The role requires 2+ years of CNC experience, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and a strong commitment to safety and quality. Competitive hourly pay and benefits are offered for this full-time position in Michigan.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machines (mills, lathes, EDM).
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and GD&T specs.
  • Load correct tooling and machine settings; monitor operations.
  • Perform in-process inspections and ensure traceability.
  • Maintain aerospace quality standards (AS9100) and safety.

Employment Type: Full-Time, Hourly

Shift: Days:6am-430pm, Mid:12pm-10:30pm, Nights: 3:30pm-2am ($1 prem for Nights)
Pay: $19.25- $24.00+ (Based off experience)

Job Summary

The CNC Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to produce aerospace components. This role ensures all parts meet strict engineering specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. Steel Tool has various CNC machines to support production needs.

Equipment

EDM Wire (Makino and AgieCharmilles)

Mill (Mikron, Makino, and Haas)

Lathe (Haas, Mori Seiki, and Okuma)

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machines (mills, lathes, or EDM)
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications
  • Proper loading of product while verifying correct tooling and machine settings
  • Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or deviations
  • Perform in-process inspections using various measuring instruments dictated by the operational work instruction
  • Maintain tight tolerances required for aerospace-grade components
  • Document production data and maintain accurate records for traceability
  • Follow all safety procedures and aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100)
  • Perform preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting of setup, program, or machine
  • Collaborate with engineers and quality teams to resolve issues

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (technical certification preferred)
  • 2+ years of CNC machining experience setting up and operating equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T
  • Proficient use of measuring tools (Height gage, calipers, and micrometers)
  • Ability to read decimals down to one ten-thousandths
  • Familiarity with CNC controls (e.g., Fanuc, Haas)
  • Strong attention to detail and precision
  • Basic math and problem-solving skills
  • Strong ability to multi-task and manage time to prevent downtime
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift over 50lbs
