Position Summary
The CNC Lead oversees daily CNC machining operations, ensuring production goals are met safely, efficiently, and with high quality. This role provides hands‑on technical support, trains operators, troubleshoots equipment, and coordinates workflow across CNC machines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily CNC operations by assigning tasks, setting priorities, and monitoring workflow.
- Set up, program, and operate CNC machines including mills, lathes, or multi‑axis equipment.
- Train and mentor CNC operators on machine operation, safety, and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot machining issues such as tool wear, offsets, programming errors, and machine alarms.
- Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision tools to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Maintain production documentation including setup sheets, inspection records, and job travelers.
- Collaborate with engineering on process improvements, tooling changes, and new product launches.
- Ensure machine maintenance by coordinating preventive service and reporting mechanical issues.
- Enforce safety standards and promote a clean, organized work environment (5S).
- Monitor material usage and tooling inventory to prevent downtime and maintain efficiency.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years CNC machining experience with strong knowledge of G‑code and machine setup.
- Leadership or team‑lead experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings.
- Strong problem‑solving skills for machining, tooling, and programming issues.
- Proficiency with measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and CMMs.
- Familiarity with CNC controls such as Haas, Fanuc, Mazak, Okuma, or similar.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and ERP systems.
- Commitment to safety and quality in a fast‑paced production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multi‑axis machining (3-, 4-, or 5‑axis).
- Lean manufacturing or 5S knowledge.
- Experience training or supervising teams.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 40–50 lbs as needed.
- Standing for extended periods during machine operation.
- Manual dexterity for handling tools, parts, and precision instruments.
