Job summary

Mazak Corporation seeks an Applications Engineer to support Sales by providing technical information on Mazak machine tools to produce customer parts/products, efficiently and with robust quality.

The role operates in the Long Beach, WA area and reports to the Western Technology Center in Gardena, CA, with travel about 15% to support customer centers and trade events.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or certification in a related technical field plus 2+ years in a machine-tool related role, or 3–5 years in a related position.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication with management, vendors, and customers.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical information on the use of Mazak machine tools to Sales and customers.
• Provide part processing and machine recommendations to optimize production.
• Calculate time studies and cost to manufacture parts including labor and tooling costs.
• Design work holding and tooling as needed to support manufacturing.
• Demonstrate machine operation and features at trade shows or open houses.
• Safely rig and install machines at technology centers and at customer facilities; provide customer training.
• Perform test cuts and full turnkey process development including statistical analysis of part measurement.
• Travel approximately 15% of the time.

Job description

Mazak Corporation's Western Applications department is searching for an Applications Engineer to join the team. The Applications Engineer assists Sales staff by providing technical information on the use of Mazak machine tools to produce customer parts/products, efficiently and with robust quality. This position works in the Long Beach, WA area and reports to our Western Technology Center located in Gardena, CA.

Scope and Responsibilities:

• Proactively attain a safe and healthy work environment for all employees
• Provide telephone/email customer support on the operation and use of Mazak Products
• Provide part processing/machine recommendations to best produce customer parts as the stated part volumes
• Calculate time study estimates of machine cycle time
• Calculate a cost to manufacture customer parts including labor, and tooling/ work holding costs
• Conceptually design work holding and tooling as needed to support the manufacture of customer parts
• Demonstrate machine operation and machine features at trade shows and open house events
• Safely rig and install machines in Technology Centers and at trade show events. Provide customer training on safe machine operation and detailed machine functions at the customer facility
• Perform test cuts to demonstrate machine capability/prove processing concepts
• Perform full‑turn key process development and testing including statistical analysis of part measurement
• Approximately 15% of travel is required

Education/Certification:

• Associate’s degree or certification in a related technical field plus two years of experience in a machine‑tool related field, or three to five years’ experience in a related position is required
• Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred

Skills:

• Strong ability to communicate both written and orally with upper management, vendors, and customers
• Proven ability to effectively work in a team environment with other engineers
• Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Mechanical ability to build fixtures, assemble tools and rig and level machines
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically strong in Excel
• Experience with Mazatrol, EIA/G‑Code Programming, CAD/CAM Programming software, Esprit or Mastercam, Fusion 360 or other

The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $110,000.
