Job summary

Mazak Corporation seeks an Applications Engineer to join our Western Applications team in Gardena, CA. You will support Sales by sharing technical information on Mazak machine tools to help produce customer parts with high quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities include design of workholding, training at customer sites, demonstrations at trade shows, and traveling about 15% of the time. Associates degree with relevant experience required; Bachelor's preferred.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in a related technical field plus two years of experience in a machine tool related field, or three to five years in a related position.
• Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide part processing/machine recommendations to best produce customer parts as stated volumes.
• Calculate time study estimates of machine cycle time and cost to manufacture parts.
• Conceptually design work holding/ tooling to support manufacture of customer parts.
• Demonstrate machine operation/features at trade shows and open house events.
• Rig and install machines at customer facilities and provide training on operation and functions.
• Perform test cuts to demonstrate machine capability and process concepts.
• Lead full turnkey process development and testing including statistical analysis of part measurement.
• Approximately 15% travel expected.

Job description

Mazak Corporation's Western Applications department is searching for an Applications Engineer to join the team. The Applications Engineer assists Sales staff by providing technical information on the use of Mazak machine tools to produce customer parts/products, efficiently and with robust quality. This position reports to our Western Technology Center located in Gardena, CA.

Scope and Responsibilities:

• Proactively attains a safe and healthy work environment for all employees
• Provide telephone / e-mail customer support on the operation and use of Mazak Products.
• Provide part processing / Machine recommendations to best produce customer parts as the stated part volumes.
• Calculate time study estimates of machine cycle time.
• Calculate a cost to manufacture customer parts including labor, and tooling/ work holding costs.
• Conceptually design work holding and tooling as needed to support the manufacture of customer parts.
• Demonstrate machine operation and machine features at trade shows and open house events.
• Safely rig and install machines in Technology Centers and at trade show events. Provide customer training on safe machine operation and detailed machine functions at the customer facility.
• Perform test cuts to demonstrate machine capability / prove processing concepts.
• Perform full- turn key process development and testing including statistical analysis of part measurement.
• Approximately 15% of travel is required.

Education / Certification:

• Associates degree or certification in a related technical field plus two years of experience in a machine tool related field, or three to five years' experience in a related position is required.
• Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred.

Skills:

• Strong ability to communicate both written and orally with upper management, vendors, and customers.
• Proven ability to effectively work in a team environment with other engineers.
• Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Mechanical ability to build fixtures, assemble tools and rig and level machines.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically strong in Excel.
• Experience with Mazatrol, EIA/G-Code Programming, CAD/CAM Programming software, Esprit or Mastercam, Fusion 360 or other.

The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $110,000.
