Job summary

Mazak Corporation seeks an Applications Engineer to join the Western Technical Center in Phoenix, AZ. You will support Sales with technical information, calculate cycle times and manufacturing costs, and design tooling to optimize part production.

You will also demonstrate machine capabilities at trade shows and train customers on safe operation. Required associates degree or technical certification with related experience; a Bachelor's is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or certification in a related technical field plus two years of experience in a machine tool related field, or three to five years' experience in a related position.
• Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication with upper management, vendors, and customers.
• Ability to work in a team of engineers and independently with minimal supervision.
• Mechanical ability to build fixtures, assemble tools and rig and level machines.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical information on Mazak machine tools to Sales staff.
• Provide telephone and email customer support on operation and use of Mazak products.
• Calculate time study estimates of machine cycle time and cost to manufacture parts.
• Conceptually design work holding and tooling to support production of customer parts.
• Demonstrate machine operation and features at trade shows and events.
• Travel approximately 15% for customer sites and demonstrations.

Job description

Mazak Corporation's is searching for an Applications Engineer to join the team. The Applications Engineer assists Sales staff by providing technical information on the use of Mazak machine tools to produce customer parts/products, efficiently and with robust quality. This position reports into the Western Technical Center in Phoenix, AZ.

Scope and Responsibilities:

• Proactively attains a safe and healthy work environment for all employees
• Provide telephone / e-mail customer support on the operation and use of Mazak Products.
• Provide part processing / Machine recommendations to best produce customer parts as the stated part volumes.
• Calculate time study estimates of machine cycle time.
• Calculate a cost to manufacture customer parts including labor, and tooling/ work holding costs.
• Conceptually design work holding and tooling as needed to support the manufacture of customer parts.
• Demonstrate machine operation and machine features at trade shows and open house events.
• Safely rig and install machines in Technology Centers and at trade show events. Provide customer training on safe machine operation and detailed machine functions at the customer facility.
• Perform test cuts to demonstrate machine capability / prove processing concepts.
• Perform full- turn key process development and testing including statistical analysis of part measurement.
• Approximately 15% of travel is required

Education/Certification:

• Associates degree or certification in a related technical field plus two years of experience in a machine tool related field, or three to five years' experience in a related position is required.
