Job summary

General Carbide is seeking a skilled Machinist for the finishing department on 3rd shift. The role focuses on operating CNC lathes, setting up machines, reading blueprints, and maintaining tight tolerances per GD&T.

Qualified candidates will have 3–5 years of machinist experience, the ability to run two machines when needed, and familiarity with 5-S and basic machining principles. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• 3–5 years machinist experience; or passes Machinist Class One assessment.
• Ability to read blueprints and apply GD&T.
• Experience setting up and running CNC lathes.
• Ability to operate two machines when possible.
• Strong knowledge of machining principles and grinding sequences.
• Familiar with 5-S workplace standards and tool/fixture care.

Responsibilities

• Operate multiple types of equipment with minimal supervision.
• Read blueprints and apply GD&T to part features.
• Grind required forms and maintain tolerances.
• Possibly operate two or more machines simultaneously.
• Apply standard machining principles and grinding sequences.
• Check work using gauges, maintaining specified tolerances.
• Enter finishing department data into the computer.
• Perform routine maintenance and keep area clean per 5-S.
• Maintain tools and fixtures, perform ancillary duties.
• Observe health and safety regulations.
