Job summary

Belden Universal is seeking a CNC Setup / Operator lathe machinist to join our team and grow with us in a fast‑moving manufacturing environment. You will work alongside experienced machinists to manufacture universal joints and drive shafts, setting up and running CNC turning centers.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience on CNC turning centers.
• G-code programming proficiency and understanding of GD&T.
• Strong verbal communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to plan, set up, and troubleshoot turning operations.
• Familiarity with tooling selection and offset adjustments.

Responsibilities

• Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, materials, and tolerances.
• Program and operate CNC turning centers; set tool registers and offsets.
• Set up lathes with appropriate tools and fixtures.
• Load stock, verify first parts, and ensure quality with measurements.
• Maintain safety, perform preventive maintenance, and document logs.

We are seeking a CNC Setup / Operator lathe machinist who is eager to learn and grow. In this role, you will work side-by-side with experienced machinists to manufacture universal joints and drive shafts. The position is responsible for setting up and operating CNC turning centers. You will have the opportunity to contribute to Belden’s rapid growth on day one and make a significant impact on our company.

This role is ideally for our swing shift (9 AM to 6:30 PM, 45 hours per week), but can also be filled by someone who is available for the first shift (6 AM to 2:30 PM, 40 hours per week)

CNC Setup / Operator Job Duties

• Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
• Programs multi-spindle lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
• Sets-up lathes by installing and adjusting various types of tools.
• Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
• Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
• Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
• Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
• Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions.
• Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
