Job summary

Belden Universal is seeking a CNC Setup/Operator lathe machinist to set up and operate turning centers, manufacture universal joints and drive shafts in a modern facility near Chicago. You will work closely with experienced machinists to ensure quality parts and efficient production.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years on CNC turning centers, proficiency in G-code, GD&T interpretation, and strong problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

• 5 years minimum experience on CNC turning centers.
• G-code programming experience.
• Ability to read blueprints with GD&T.
• Strong problem-solving and math skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, GD&T.
• Program multi-spindle lathes by entering instructions and offsets.
• Set up lathes by installing and adjusting tools.
• Load stock and verify first-run parts and samples.
• Maintain safety, quality logs and preventive maintenance.

In this role, you will work side-by-side with experienced machinists to manufacture universal joints and drive shafts. The position is responsible for setting up and operating CNC turning centers. Come join us in our newly constructed, air conditioned, clean, and well-organized production facility 12 miles west of downtown Chicago.Belden Universal is growing rapidly and there are significant opportunities for advancement for motivated candidates.This role is ideally for our swing shift (9 AM to 6:30 PM, 45 hours per week), but can also be filled by someone who is available for the first shift (6 AM to 2:30 PM, 40 hours per week).CNC Setup / Operator Job Duties:Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).Programs multi-spindle lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.Sets-up lathes by installing and adjusting various types of tools.Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions.Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.Skills/Qualifications:5 Years Minimum Experience on CNC Turning Centers (Swiss turning is preferred)G-Code ProgrammingConceptual SkillsProcess ImprovementVerbal CommunicationFunctional and Technical SkillsControls and InstrumentationTooling, Coordination
