Job summary

Reliant Systems, Inc. is seeking a CNC Lathe Set Up Machinist to prepare lathes from unfurnished state and produce parts within tight tolerances.

You will read prints, set up tooling, load programs, and verify readiness for production, ensuring accurate tolerances and high-quality results. The role requires fluent GD&T knowledge, experience with calipers and micrometers, and the ability to multitask across several machines while maintaining safety and cleanliness.

Responsibilities

  • Identify parts not at spec and adjust offsets
  • Run multiple machines when required
  • Maintain cleanliness and communicate progress to supervisor

Job description

The Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) Lathe Set Up Machinist position is responsible for setting up lathes from an unfurnished state and running production parts. Typical tolerance peak is +/-.0001 to +/-.002” on critical features per drawing.

Essential Functions
  • Read prints and set up sheets to prepare the tooling necessary to set up and run parts.
  • Load tooling and programs, then verify the machine is ready to produce.
  • Prepare area and stage material, then validate all requirements prior to running the initial part.
  • Load and remove material in CNC machine.
  • Use measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, etc., to check parts as they come off the machine.
  • Identify parts that deviate from standard specifications.
  • Run multiple machines, when necessary.
  • Adjust offsets.
  • Problem solve when programs are not producing desired results.
  • Follow both verbal instructions and internal procedures that will be taught.
  • Maintain the highest standards specifically applied by the company for aesthetic values on both manufactured parts and the internal environment.
  • Maintain constant communication with supervisor about job progress.
  • Clean and maintain cleanliness of work area.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.

  • Ability to load and run programs on a coordinate measurement machine.
  • Ability to meet the above essential functions with multiple variations of lathes without additional training.

Work Experience & Knowledge Requirements
  • Experience with manual measuring instruments including digital or dial calipers, micrometers, and indicators.
  • Experience with the use of gauge pins and blocks, height stands, and thread gauges.
  • Fluent print reading with tolerancing and material specifications.
  • Fluent in GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
  • Experience with MS Office including Word and Excel.

  • Associates Degree in related discipline strongly preferred.

Signing Bonus

Amount:$3,000

Payout:$1500 (50%) after 90 days of employment and $1500 (50%) after 180 days of employment

Requirements:

  • Good standing: The employee must remain employed and not be on a performance improvement plan or final disciplinary action when bonus payments are made.
  • Attendance: The employee must maintain acceptable attendance meaning no more than 3 unexcused absences or tardies per month.
  • Taxes: The bonus is subject to normal payroll tax withholding.
