Job summary

Aerotek in Apex, NC is seeking a CNC Grinding Technician to set up and operate grinding machines for dies and tooling, reading blueprints and GD&T.

You will grind parts to very tight tolerances, perform inspections with micrometers, calipers, and optical comparators, and adjust programs and offsets as needed to meet specifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2+ years' CNC grinding or precision manufacturing experience.
• Ability to read complex blueprints and GD&T specs.
• Experience with tight tolerances and precision inspection tools.
• Proficient with micrometers, calipers, indicators, and optical comparators.
• Willingness to work second shift with overtime.

Job Title: CNC Grinding Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC grinding machines to produce high-precision rotary dies, cutting tools, cylinders, and related tooling components. You will work from detailed blueprints and engineering documentation to grind parts to extremely tight tolerances, perform thorough inspections, and help maintain efficient, high-quality production in a climate-controlled machine shop.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC grinding machines to manufacture rotary dies, cutting tools, cylinders, and related tooling components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, process sheets, and GD&T specifications to ensure parts meet design requirements.
• Load, run, and edit CNC programs as needed to achieve required specifications and tight tolerances.
• Monitor machine performance during production and make offset and parameter adjustments to maintain quality standards.
• Grind parts to extremely close tolerances and specified surface finish requirements.
• Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, indicator gauges, optical comparators, and other inspection tools.
• Verify critical dimensions, runout, concentricity, and surface finish on all parts produced.
• Change grinding wheels, tooling, fixtures, and machine components as necessary for different jobs and materials.
• Maintain accurate production records, quality documentation, and job tracking information.
• Troubleshoot machining and grinding issues to minimize downtime, reduce scrap, and improve overall efficiency.
• Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and housekeeping requirements to maintain a safe and organized work area.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production personnel to improve processes, productivity, and part quality.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and routine machine upkeep to ensure reliable machine operation.
• Support production schedules and work overtime as needed to meet customer delivery commitments.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2+ years of experience in CNC grinding, tool and die, machining, or precision manufacturing.
• Proven ability to set up and operate CNC grinding machines in a production environment.
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications.
• Experience working with tight tolerances and high-precision inspection equipment.
• Strong understanding of machining principles, including feeds, speeds, wheel selection, and grinding processes.
• Proficiency using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicator gauges, and optical comparators.
• Basic computer skills and ability to work confidently with CNC machine controls.
• Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to quality and accuracy.
• Ability to troubleshoot machining and grinding issues and make appropriate adjustments.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to established safety and quality procedures.

Work Environment

This position is based in a climate-controlled machine shop that specializes in manufacturing dies and precision tooling. The role is on a flexible second shift, Monday through Thursday with 10-hour shifts from approximately 2:20 p.m. to 12:50 a.m., with some overtime available on Fridays. Second shift offers a $1.50 shift differential, and Fridays are typically a half day, with the option to come in around 10:00 a.m. for 4 to 6 hours of additional work. You will work around CNC grinding machines and related tooling and inspection equipment in a clean, organized, and safety-focused environment, following standard shop attire appropriate for a manufacturing setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Apex, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45760.00 - $62400.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
