Job summary

Applied Aerospace & Defense, a premier design and manufacturing partner for space and defense programs, seeks a Grinding Machine Operator in Newington, CT. You will set up and operate 4- or 5-axis CNC grinding equipment to achieve specified sizes and finishes, selecting wheels, speeds, and lubricants as required.

You will identify improvement opportunities, report non-conformances, and participate in 5S/kaizen activities while maintaining a strong safety record and assisting training for others.

Qualifications

• Must be able to operate a 4 or 5 axis CNC Machine.
• Grind flat, cylindrical or internal surfaces to specified size and finish.
• Selects proper abrasive wheel, determine speed and feed and applies lubricant when required.
• Capable of identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Identify non-conformances and notify management when needed.
• Participate in Continuous Improvement projects (5S, TPM, kaizen) and related activities.
• Work safely at all times and assist training of other employees.

Responsibilities

• Set up grinding machine per blueprint or specifications.
• Grind to required size and finish with appropriate machine settings.
• Select abrasive wheel, set speed/ feed, apply lubricant as needed.
• Identify and report non-conformances; drive corrective actions.
• Assist in continuous improvement initiatives and safety programs.
• Support department objectives and mentor others as required.
