Software Placement Group is seeking a CNC Field Service Technician to support customer sites across the upper Midwest. This role involves hands-on maintenance, repair, and technical support to keep CNC equipment running at peak performance.

You will travel to customer sites throughout MN, WI, SD, ND with regional travel, performing preventive maintenance and diagnosing complex CNC-related issues. Strong communication and documentation skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years hands-on CNC machinery repair/maintenance.
  • Experience with rotating machinery, spindles and precision bearings.
  • Strong understanding of CNC controls and basic electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills with high attention to detail and technical accuracy.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer sites in MN, WI, SD, ND to install, troubleshoot, and maintain CNC tools and controls.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and identify opportunities for performance improvements.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.
  • Use manuals, technical documentation, and vendor support to troubleshoot complex problems.
  • Clearly communicate equipment status, repairs, and recommendations to customers.
  • Accurately complete and submit service and installation reports.
  • Ensure customer commitments are met with professionalism and technical excellence.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors, suppliers, and customers.
  • Stay current on new technologies and product updates through ongoing training.
  • Maintain deep technical knowledge of all equipment lines represented by the company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Location: Minneapolis, MN | Schedule: Full-time, field-based with regional travel

Overview

An established distributor of CNC machine tools is seeking a CNC Field Service Technician to support its customer base across the upper Midwest. This role is central to keeping customers' CNC equipment running at peak performance through hands-on maintenance, repair, and technical support.

What you'll do
  • Travel to customer sites throughout MN, WI, SD, ND and the surrounding region to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain CNC machine tools, controls, and related equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance and identify opportunities for performance improvement
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components
  • Use manuals, technical documentation, and internal/vendor support to troubleshoot complex problems
  • Clearly communicate equipment status, repairs, and recommendations to customers
  • Accurately complete and submit service and installation reports
  • Ensure customer commitments are met with a high standard of professionalism and technical excellence
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors, suppliers, and customers
  • Stay current on new technologies and product updates through ongoing training and technical seminars
  • Maintain deep technical knowledge of all equipment lines represented by the company
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required qualifications
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience repairing or maintaining CNC machinery
  • Experience with rotating machinery, spindles, and precision bearings
  • Strong understanding of CNC controls and basic electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills with high attention to detail and technical accuracy
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant business software
  • Valid driver's license required and ability to travel up to 25% throughout the assigned territory
  • Comfortable interacting professionally under pressure with customers and colleagues
