Job summary

The University of Southern California's School of Architecture seeks an experienced Digital Fabrication Technician II to independently manage the daily CNC fabrication lab operations. You will consult with students, prepare CNC files, and operate the lab's 3-axis and multi-axis CNC equipment, ensuring safe, efficient fabrication for coursework and special projects.

Responsibilities include maintaining equipment, coordinating schedules, progressing lab improvements, and supporting laser cutting

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Min 2 years independently programming, setting up and operating CNC milling/routing equipment.
• Experience with multi-axis CNC routers (Haas or comparable preferred).
• Proficient with Rhino and Mastercam or similar CAD/CAM software.
• Ability to translate digital designs into CNC fabrication workflows.
• Strong troubleshooting, tooling, fixturing and programming skills.
• Knowledge of materials, cutting tools and safe shop practices.
• Strong organizational and customer service abilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operation of the CNC fabrication lab.
• Serve as primary operator for all CNC equipment.
• Consult with students on goals, materials, methods and schedules.
• Evaluate Rhino models for manufacturability and modify when needed.
• Program, set up and operate CNC equipment using Mastercam and Rhino.
• Determine tooling, fixturing and operation order for projects.
• Coordinate fabrication schedules to meet deadlines across multiple requests.
• Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of CNC equipment.
• Support lab improvement projects and maintain shop documentation.
• Assist Laser Cutting and 3D Printing operations as needed.
