Job summary

Champion Home Builders, Inc. in Decatur, Indiana, is seeking a CNC-Controls-Robotics Technician for the 2nd shift to maintain and troubleshoot CNC equipment, PLCs, and robotic cells used to produce wood structures.

Responsibilities include learning machine programming via HMIs, coordinating with supplier OEMs, and conducting preventive maintenance with accuracy and safety. Candidates should have mechatronics or related degree and hands-on PLC/robotics experience.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in mechatronics, robotics, or CNC equipment, or equivalent.
• 4+ years of manufacturing or relevant electrical experience.
• Familiarity with controls hardware used in high-volume manufacturing.
• Knowledge of safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA).
• Knowledge of lock-out-tag-out procedures.
• Knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA79, National Electric Code, UL508A).
• Experience in troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLCs.
• Experience in troubleshooting industrial 6-axis Fanuc robots.
• Experience troubleshooting fieldbus networks such as Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, or Profinet.
• Knowledge of communications between machine PLCs and database systems for data tracking.

Responsibilities

• Attend training classes to learn about the operational and maintenance of purchased equipment.
• Setup and operate a host of CNC machinery to produce wood parts and structures.
• Setup and operate robotic cells to produce wood components.
• Program and troubleshoot Allen Bradley or Beckhoff PLCs.
• Program and troubleshoot Fanuc robots.
• Read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Operate HMI screens for a variety of equipment and train operators on usage modes.
• Communicate with suppliers and guide their technicians to resolve breakdowns and downtimes.
• Perform minor repairs on equipment.
• Perform and record preventive maintenance on all equipment using state of the art CMM program for traceability.
• Manage equipment spare parts.
• Work with suppliers to perform annual maintenance requirements.
• Build maintenance area, workbenches and acquire necessary tools to perform required repairs.

As an Automation Technician, you will perform maintenance and troubleshooting of CNC equipment, PLC controlled equipment, and robotic cells to produce wood structures. You will perform preventive maintenance on the equipment including periodic calibration. You will learn the programmability aspect of each machine using specified HMI prompts and train machine operators on their use. You will lead all communications with supplier OEMs to troubleshoot downtimes and order spare parts. Functional experience with wood working CNC equipment, PLC Programs, HMI's, robotics, and networking. Ability to debug complex machinery applications.
