We value our incredible Certified Nursing Assistants and want to ensure they practice at the top of their license to better optimize their skills and experience. We’ve also developed a career path framework for CNAs that clarifies paths to move, develop and advance CNA careers into nursing and other roles. The Certified Nursing Assistants provides direct and indirect nursing care under the direction of a RN and in accordance with policies and procedures.

Qualifications

In addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:

  • Six months previous CNA experience preferred
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Basic computer skills
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Graduate of a Nursing Assistant Program required
  • State registered CNA license required
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training preferred. CPI training required if sitting with M-1 holds

Physical Requirements - Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly)

The Surgical Floor 9 Department at Penrose Hospital, an achieved Magnet hospital, is a 23-bed unit, where we care for general surgery patients with surgeries such as bowel resections, ostomy creations, urological surgeries, gyn surgeries and trauma patients. Caring for these patients builds a strong base of knowledge and skills for nurses that includes care of drains, wound vacs, central line and tube feedings. We manage patients’ pain with many different modalities. Discharge education begins when the patient is admitted to the unit. The nurses are focused on educating patients and families to help the patient with a successful recovery. The nursing team collaborates with the physicians in the patient’s Plan of Care. The nursing team on the 9th floor is supportive of each other on the floor in coordinating care and the team builds relationships personally. The skills and assessments acquired on this unit builds a strong resume if a nurse has goals to transition to critical care nursing.
