Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use. Provides assistance with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care.
Assists residents with transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment, and provides range of motion and passive exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience. Assists residents with meals and snacks, provides water and supplements as appropriate. Documents resident interactions and communicates changing conditions and concerns to the charge nurse. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services, and encourages participation in wellness and recreational programs. May participate in departmental committees.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required. Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience preferred. Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or within four months of employment via training program or certification process. Maintains yearly competency testing, continuing education, and required certifications. May require a valid driver's license and medical qualification for driving responsibilities depending on the role.
