Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use. Provides assistance with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support. Assists with transfers, repositioning, walking, and exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, assists residents with meals, and provides water and supplements as appropriate. Documents resident interactions, communicates changes to the charge nurse, and may participate in wellness and recreational programs. Maintains department certifications and completes required training.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred; minimum age 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience preferred. Must have CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing or be enrolled in a training program to obtain certification within four months. Must complete yearly competency testing and maintain continuing education credits. State-specific requirements may apply. Valid driver’s license and ability to perform driving responsibilities if applicable.
