Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and use Personal Protective Equipment. Provides assistance with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support. Assists residents with transfers, repositioning, walking, and exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, assisting residents with meals and snacks, and providing water and supplements as appropriate.
The NA aids providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed. Documents resident interactions and communicates changes in condition. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services, and encourages participation in wellness and recreational programs. Participates in departmental/organization committees as needed.
