Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, MD is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care under supervision. You will assist nursing staff, record vital signs, help with hygiene, and support admissions, discharges, and routine procedures while maintaining a safe, clean environment.

Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma and state CNA/Nurse's Aide certification with Basic Life Support; prior patient care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • State CNA/Nurse's Aide certification as required by the applicable state.
  • Prior patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and report patient concerns or changes in condition to Nursing Staff immediately.
  • Assist Nursing Staff with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
  • Record vital signs, assist in hygiene and comfort, and monitor intake/output.
  • Assist in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment to help prevent infections and ensure safety.
  • Report equipment repairs to appropriate personnel promptly.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Communicate nutrition issues and changes in diet to Nursing Staff.
  • Assist with administrative tasks to support department operations.
  • Answer patient call bell and relay messages to appropriate personnel.

This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a professional nurse. This position will provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Current Certification issued by state where services will be performed:
  • MD: Certified Nursing Assistant through the Maryland Department of Health
  • OH: Nurse's Aide Certification through the Ohio Department of Health
  • PA: Nurse's Aide Certification through the Pennsylvania Department of Health
  • WV: Nurse's Aide Certification through the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources
Experience

  • Prior patient care experience.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Records the vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures. Records oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).
  • Assists in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
  • Assists in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors and employees.
  • Reports all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
  • Communicates with Nursing Staff regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.
  • Assists department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.
  • Answers patient call bell and relays message to appropriate personnel.

  • Heavy/Hard Work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking.
