Job summary

GRMC Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, MD is seeking a Nursing Assistant to provide nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care under supervision. You will support licensed staff, assist with admissions and routine care, monitor vital signs, and help maintain a safe, clean environment.

The role requires a High School Diploma, BLS within 30 days, and state nurse aide certification where services are performed. Strong communication and adaptability are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Current state nurse aide certification as required by the service location.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and reports patient concerns or changes to Nursing Staff promptly.
  • Assists Nursing Staff with admission, transfer, discharge and general care tasks.
  • Records vital signs, assists with hygiene and patient comfort measures.
  • Assists in specimen collection and other patient activities as assigned.
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel about equipment repairs as needed.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Communicates nutrition issues to Nursing Staff.
  • Assists department with administrative tasks to support operations.
  • Answers patient call bell and relays messages.

This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a professional nurse. This position will provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  1. 1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. 2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  3. 3. Current Certification issued by state where services will be performed: MD: Certified Nursing Assistant through the Maryland Department of Health OH: Nurse's Aide Certification through the Ohio Department of Health PA: Nurse's Aide Certification through the Pennsylvania Department of Health WV: Nurse's Aide Certification through the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources

  2. 2. Assists the Nursing Staff with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
  3. 3. Records the vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures. Records oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).
  4. 4. Assists in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
  5. 5. Assists in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors and employees.
  6. 6. Reports all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.
  7. 7. Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
  8. 8. Communicates with Nursing Staff regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.
  9. 10. Assists department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.
  10. 11. Answers patient call bell and relays message to appropriate personnel.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36 Shift: Exempt/Non-Exempt: United States of America (Non-Exempt) Compensation Range: $15.68 - $23.51 Position is eligible for shift differentials based on shift worked and eligible for overtime pay hours over 40 hours per week.
