Job summary

GRMC Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, MD, seeks a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care under licensed nursing staff. You’ll assist with admissions, transfers, discharges and daily activities while documenting vitals and patient needs.

The role requires High School Diploma, BLS within 30 days, and state CNA certification (MD/OH/PA/WV). Prior patient care experience is preferred. Expect varied shifts and a compassionate, team-based environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Current Nurse's Aide Certification as specified by state (MD/OH/PA/WV).
  • Experience in patient care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and report patient concerns to Nursing Staff immediately.
  • Assist Nursing Staff with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
  • Record vital signs, assist in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures; track intake/output.
  • Assist in specimen collection and other patient activities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment to prevent infections and protect patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Report equipment repairs promptly per department procedures.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Communicate nutrition issues to Nursing Staff and update care plans.
  • Assist department with administrative tasks and respond to patient call bells.

This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a professional nurse. This position will provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Current Certification issued by state where services will be performed:
  • MD: Certified Nursing Assistant through the Maryland Department of Health
  • OH: Nurse's Aide Certification through the Ohio Department of Health
  • PA: Nurse's Aide Certification through the Pennsylvania Department of Health
  • WV: Nurse's Aide Certification through the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources
Experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior patient care experience.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Observes and reports all patient concerns/changes in condition to the Nursing Staff immediately.
  • Assists the Nursing Staff with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
  • Records the vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures. Records oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).
  • Assists in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
  • Assists in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors and employees.
  • Reports all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
  • Communicates with Nursing Staff regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.
  • Assists department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.
  • Answers patient call bell and relays message to appropriate personnel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Heavy/Hard Work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • Working closely with others.

  • Working with or near the deceased.
  • Working with hands in water.
  • Working with electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
