Responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and grooming.
• Document vital signs, intake/output, and weight as directed.
• Support mobility and transfers using proper body mechanics.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and report promptly.
• Provide post-operative support and infection prevention practices.
• Maintain clean, stocked patient rooms and respond to call lights promptly.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges and document care in EHR.

Description

Job Summary

The Medical-Surgical Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides essential direct patient care and support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The CNA assists patients with daily living activities, promotes comfort and safety, and supports efficient unit operations in a fast-paced medical-surgical environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, and grooming
• Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, and intake and output as directed
• Assist with patient mobility, ambulation, repositioning, and transfers using proper body mechanics
• Observe and report changes in patient condition to the nursing staff promptly
• Provide post-operative care support, including incentive spirometry reminders and mobility assistance
• Assist with specimen collection and transport
• Maintain patient rooms by stocking supplies and ensuring cleanliness and safety
• Respond to call lights and patient requests in a timely and compassionate manner
• Support infection prevention, safety protocols, and patient privacy standards (HIPAA)
• Assist nursing staff with admissions, transfers, and discharges
• Document care provided accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)

Regulatory Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or required by facility
