Major Responsibilities:
- Assists RN with daily patient care including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, ambulation, use of therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion, and special transferring as indicated.
- Measures and documents vital signs, intake and output, weights, and other data; records accurately in EMR.
- Performs purposeful rounding and communicates observations to RN; documents appropriately.
- Participates in admission, transfer, and discharge processes under RN supervision, including room setup and patient belongings management.
- Collects specimens and performs point-of-care testing using approved procedures; maintains competency.
- Performs errands, maintains supplies, cleans equipment and work areas.
- Assists with patient positioning and transportation, including lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique and assistive devices.
- Supports nutritional and skin integrity tasks under RN direction; manages patient supplies and appliances.
- May remove IVs, provide post-mortem care, and perform bladder scans as directed by RN and site requirements.
- Practices infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and sterile procedures.
- Provides age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles, and interprets patient data accordingly.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA within 45 days.
- Nurse Aide in good standing with the State Registry.
Education Required:
- GED or HSED, or High School Diploma.
Experience Required: None
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Maintain annual educational requirements for hospital certifications.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs., and perform physical tasks with proper technique.
- Must have functional vision and hearing.
- Exposure to hazards and need for protective clothing as necessary.
