Job summary

Northwest LA Veterans Home in Bossier City, Louisiana is seeking Certified Nursing Assistants to join the Nursing Department. The role involves direct patient care, assistance with daily activities, and documention of vital signs.

Shift patterns are 12-hour blocks, including day or night hours, with weekends/holidays required. Salary reflects Special Entrance Rates plus shift differentials. Opportunities for progression exist within Nursing Assistant 1 or 2 roles.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience or training in patient care or CNA certification.
• Completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant, RN, PN, Medical Assistant, or EMT program.

Responsibilities

• Direct and assist in providing care to patients (ambulating, bathing, positioning, lifting, dressing).
• Assist in feeding and monitor/record eating patterns.
• Clean rooms and bedding; handle linens.
• Manage patient clothing: wash, dry, sort, fold, store.
• Record vital signs and inputs/outputs in medical records.
• Observe patient conditions and report changes to the charge nurse.
• Provide care to patients with infectious diseases as needed.

About This Job

The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the Veterans' population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity. This position is located in the Nursing Department of the Northwest LA Veterans Home in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Minimum Qualifications

Six months of experience or training in patient care; OR Possession of a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate; OR Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician Program.

Note: Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require that applicants possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.

In This Role, You Will Also:

• Direct and assist in providing care to patients such as ambulating, bathing, positioning, lifting, and dressing.
• Directs and assists in the feeding of patients. Monitors and documents eating patterns of patients.
• Cleans rooms, makes and changes bed linen.
• Distributes clean linens, washes, dries, sorts, folds, and stores patient’s clothing.
• Measures temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, weight, intake and output, and records in patient’s medical record.
• Observes patient’s condition and reports any changes to the charge nurse.
• Provides care to patients with infectious diseases, as needed.

Position-Specific Details

Location: Nursing Department of the Northwest LA Veterans Home in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Appointment Type: Probational.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Nursing Assistant 1 or 2 (CNA 1 or 2).

Work Schedule: Work hours are 12-hour shifts, which include DAY OR NIGHT shifts. Weekends and/or holidays are required.

Compensation: This position is eligible for the following Special Entrance Rates, along with Shift Differentials and a Premium Pay of $3.00 per hour worked:

Nursing Assistant 1: $13.74/hour

Nursing Assistant 2: $14.70/hour
