Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)/Competency Evaluated Nursing Assistant (CENA) Job Description

The CNA/CENA is responsible for providing physical and emotional care to residents to enhance their quality of life, including assistance with ADL and rehabilitation activities.

Essential Functions
  1. Participates in and receives nursing report upon reporting for duty.
  2. Assists residents at mealtimes.
  3. Provides resident care including bathing, grooming, hygiene, and adaptive equipment placement.
  4. Explains procedures to residents before administering them, and drapes residents for examinations and treatments.
  5. Keeps residents dry by changing clothing and linens when wet or soiled.
  6. Assists with bowel and bladder functions, including emptying urinary drainage bags and recording the output.
  7. Supports residents with lifting, positioning, and transporting, ensuring safety and using appropriate devices.
  8. Performs restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed.
  9. Ensures call lights are within reach and responded to promptly.
  10. Meets residents' personal care needs according to their wishes.
  11. Reports any changes in residents' conditions to the supervisor promptly.
  12. Changes bed linens, handles linens according to infection control guidelines.
  13. Maintains cleanliness of resident units and related areas.
  14. Assists residents with appointments, activities, and social programs.
  15. Uses creative problem solving to meet residents' needs within scope of responsibility.
  16. Provides post-mortem care as instructed.
  17. Performs special nursing care duties, including identifying and reporting abnormal skin conditions.
  18. Prepares residents for meals, assists with feeding, ensures hydration, and documents snack and supplement delivery.
  19. Records all care entries accurately on flow sheets and other documents.
  20. Participates in care conferences and follows individual care plans.
  21. Handles admission, discharge, and transfer duties as required.
  22. Maintains confidentiality of resident information.
  23. Uses supplies and equipment properly, including restocking as needed.
  24. Reports structural, equipment, and furniture issues.
  25. Handles unusual occurrences calmly to ensure continuity of care.
  26. Communicates effectively with residents, families, and staff.
  27. Follows safety, security, and care protocols, especially in the Dementia Care Unit.
  28. Participates in educational and training activities.
  29. Engages in special activities such as safety committees, mentoring, and orientation.
  30. Labels and charges ancillary items for billing.
  31. Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities
