Job description

Community Name: Harmar Place Community

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)/Competency Evaluated Nursing Assistant (CENA) is responsible for providing physical and emotional care to residents, enhancing their quality of life through assistance with ADLs and rehabilitation activities.

Essential Functions
  • Participate in and receive nursing report upon reporting for duty.
  • Assist residents during mealtimes.
  • Help with resident care including bathing, grooming, hygiene, and placement of adaptive equipment.
  • Explain procedures to residents before administering them; drape residents for examinations and treatments.
  • Keep residents dry by changing clothing and linens when wet or soiled.
  • Assist with bowel and bladder functions, including emptying urinary drainage bags and recording the output, reporting irregularities to the nurse.
  • Support residents with lifting, positioning, and transferring into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, and lifts, ensuring safety; assist with ambulation using or without self-help devices.
  • Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed.
  • Ensure call lights are within reach and respond promptly.
  • Meet residents’ personal care needs according to their wishes.
  • Report any changes in residents' condition to the supervisor promptly.
  • Change bed linens, keeping linens taut to prevent wrinkles, and handle linens according to infection control guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness of resident units, bathing areas, treatment rooms, workspaces, and linen closets.
  • Assist residents in preparing for and attending appointments, activities, and social programs.
  • Use creative problem-solving to meet residents' needs within scope of responsibility.
  • Provide post-mortem care as instructed.
  • Perform special nursing care duties, including identifying and reporting abnormal skin conditions.
  • Position residents appropriately for meals, serve food, assist with feeding, ensure hydration, and document snacks and supplements.
  • Accurately record entries on flow sheets, intake and output records, and other documentation at the point of care.
  • Participate in care conferences and follow individual care plans.
  • Handle admissions, discharges, and transfers as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
  • Use supplies and equipment properly, restocking as needed.
  • Report structural, equipment, or furniture issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Handle unusual occurrences calmly to maintain continuity of duties.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, their families, and staff.
  • Follow safety, security, and care protocols, especially in the Dementia Care Unit.
  • Participate in educational and training activities.
  • Engage in special activities such as safety committees, mentoring, and orientation.
  • Label and charge ancillary items for billing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Additional Requirements: Ability to assist during therapy, communicate effectively, operate specific equipment, be dependable, compassionate, and participate in continuing education. Adhere to all employment policies.
